Facilitator: Joyce E Rioux, EdD, OTR/L, SCSS

Bio: Joyce E Rioux, EdD, OTR/L, SCSS is the Assistant Director of Therapies at the Capitol Region Education Council in Connecticut. She has more than 35 years experience in school system practice. At the local level, she is an advocate for promoting and protecting the full scope of occupational therapy practice in schools. At the national level, Dr. Rioux is chair-elect of the AOTA Commission on Continuing Competence and Professional Development. She also serves on the AOTA Board for Advanced and Specialty Certification and in this role actively monitors trends in occupational therapy practice. Dr. Rioux presents at local, state, and national conferences on topics specific to school therapy practice and professional development. She co-edited and authored chapters for AOTA’s recent publication of Best Practices for Occupational Therapy in Schools, 2nd edition.

Goals:

  • Increase their capacity to plan interventions for remote services.
  • Create a shared understanding of best practices in implementing intervention through telehealth options.
  • Identify methods for collecting outcome data for the purposes of understanding present level and revising the intervention plan as needed.

Summary of Event:

This special interest section will bring together Connecticut school occupational therapy practitioners to focus on Best Practices in delivering services remotely during COVID-19.  Through collective critical inquiry and reflection participants will intentionally learn, pool knowledge, and share resources to better our practice.
