Facilitators:  Mike Urban (Vice Chair of the AOTA RA) and Joan Sauvignon-Kirsch (CT RA)

Bio/Background of the Speakers:

 Michael Urban is the current Vice Speaker and Speaker elect for the Representative Assembly to the AOTA and will be a member of the Board of the Directors for AOTA. He is the current Program Director at the University of New Haven and also consults in private practice and has practice for over 20 years in a variety of settings. 

Joan Sauvigne-Kirsch is the current  RA Representative from CT and Asst. Professor and Asst. Fieldwork Coordinator at Sacred Heart University. She has been an OT for 35 years in a variety of practice settings, including 20 years in the CT public schools. 

Learning Objectives Attendees Should Achieve:

Participants will:
1. Understand the rational for AOTA’s proposed bylaws restructuring.
2. Discuss the new governance process for AOTA.
3. Ask clarifying questions to make a well informed decision for the upcoming AOTA bylaw vote.

Summary of Event: 

The session will provide context for AOTA’s proposed bylaw changes aimed to prepare the association to advance occupational therapy practice into the future.  The session will begin with a presentation regarding AOTA's bylaws revision process, explain the new process and new structure, and how the changes will allow for increased opportunities for member engagement. After the presentation, there will be an open forum discussion to assure they are well informed for the upcoming vote which will open on June 9-24, 2022.
