Speaker: Monika Lukasiewicz OTR/L, CLIPP

Bio/Background of the Speakers:

ConnOTA community of practice members are OT practitioners who are actively working in home care, who have worked in home care, or are seeking to work in home care.  Members bring their expertise and skillset as well as questions and a strong desire to use social learning theory to learn, share, and pool knowledge.

Learning Objectives Attendees Should Achieve:

This hour-long presentation and discussion will allow participants to:

  1. Define dementia.
  2. Identify at least 3—5 symptoms common to dementia to help you and your clients improve detection.
  3. Identify at least 4 specific types of referrals you can make to support community members experiencing dementia (regardless of the setting you work in)
  4. Describe the role of OT as a dementia care specialist in an evidenced based program like COPE

Summary of Event:

Monika is an occupational therapist with a history of in-home and exploratory use of occupational therapy. She now works as COPE Director for a non-profit in Mesa, AZ implementing the evidence-based approach of COPE with families experiencing dementia. This presentation will be sure to spark dialogue around this much needed area of OT practice. The topics are inspired by the grant-funding from the Administration for Community Living and grant objectives of her current work in addressing the growing concerns around where we BEGIN to address dementia.

This event is sponsored by Connecticut occupational therapy practitioners. ConnOTA is supporting this event by overseeing the award of CEUs for registered participants.
