Summary of Event:

 

Title:  Adaptive Clothing, Footwear and Jewelry – Beyond the Button Hook

 

This presentation will review the importance of providing opportunities for clients who require adaptive clothing, footwear, and accessories to be independent in dressing and to have the ability to choose clothing that allows them to express their preferences and personalities. The knowledge gained will be applied to case studies that cover a variety of ages and occupations.


Learning Objectives Attendees Should Achieve:

After attending this educational session, attendees will be able to:

 

  1. Discuss the social importance of appearance in our society and the value of adaptive clothing and accessories to promote independence in dressing and self-expression.
  2. Review sources of adaptive clothing and accessories.
  3. Apply knowledge gained to case studies.

 

 

Bio/Background of the Speakers:

ConnOTA community of practice-perspectives in aging members are OT practitioners who work with older adults, have worked with older adults, or who are seeking to work with this population. Areas of practice include but are not limited to hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, long-term care facilities, home care, ALF, ILF, Adult Day Care, Senior Centers, as well as students, retirees, and those who teach older adult OT content. Members bring their expertise and skill set as well as questions and a strong desire to use social learning theory to learn, share, and pool resources and knowledge.

Mastery of group objectives is orally assessed.
