Summary of Event:

Title: Understanding PTSD in Older Adults, Care and Management 

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition that can affect people of all ages, including older adults. It is crucial to shed light on how this condition manifests in the aging population, its impact on aging, and the necessary care and management strategies. This presentation will review the data and research behind PTSD in older adults, factors impacting care and current key care options, followed by a conversation discussing the role of occupational therapy in caring for these individuals and their families.

Learning Objectives Attendees Should Achieve:

At the end of the session, participants will be able to:

  1.  Identify key symptoms and the impact of PTSD in older adults
  2.  Evaluate the factors impacting PTSD care among older adults
  3.  Develop effective care and management strategies for older adults with PTSD

 

Bio/Background of the Speakers:
ConnOTA community of practice-perspectives in aging members are OT practitioners who work with older adults, have worked with older adults, or who are seeking to work with this population. Areas of practice include but are not limited to hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, long-term care facilities, home care, ALF, ILF, Adult Day Care, Senior Centers, as well as students, retirees, and those who teach older adult OT content. Members bring their expertise and skill set as well as questions and a strong desire to use social learning theory to learn, share, and pool resources and knowledge.
  

Mastery of group objectives is orally assessed.
