Summary of Event:
Title: Unique Occupational Therapy (OT) Roles in Acute Psychiatric Settings
During this CoP event, the speakers will share their unique experiences serving children, adolescents, and adults in acute mental health facilities. Attendees will learn about the daily tasks carried out by OTPs in these facilities and the benefits of OT for the clients they serve. As a group, they will also discuss solutions to the barriers impacting OT practice in acute psychiatric settings.

Bio/Background of the Speaker:
Morgan Villano has supported Sacred Heart University’s (SHU) Graduate OT program since 2018, initially as an adjunct and then as full-time faculty since 2023. Her teaching content focuses on mental health as well as foundational knowledge related to human occupations, activity analysis, and occupational analysis. She also has practiced with Yale New Haven Hospital in the role of a per diem O.T. since 2020, supporting adolescents through older adults who are experiencing acute psychiatric symptoms and benefit from inpatient treatment. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Quinnipiac University, as well as a Master of Public Administration and Political Science degrees from Suffolk University.
Evan Peck is an occupational therapist with a diverse background in mental health and school-based therapy. A proud graduate of the SHU OT program (Class of 2021), Evan has been practicing as a mental health O.T. since 2022 at St. Vincent’s Behavioral Health in Westport, where he works with both adults and adolescents. Additionally, since 2023, Evan has been serving as a school-based OT with Constellation Health Services, providing support within the Monroe Public Schools. His work reflects a strong commitment to improving mental and physical well-being across a variety of settings.

- Be able to articulate the main roles of occupational therapy practitioners (OTPs) serving clients in acute psychiatric settings.
