Summary of Event:

Title: Carpal Tunnel and the Older Adult 

This course offers a comprehensive review of current literature and clinical guidelines surrounding the evaluation, assessment, and treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS), with a specialized focus on the aging population. Participants will explore the latest evidence-based practices, including diagnostic criteria, functional assessments, and intervention strategies for the diagnosis. By the end of the course, participants will be equipped to deliver patient-centered, evidence-informed care for older adults with CTS, improving quality of life and functional independence.

Learning Objectives Attendees Should Achieve:

At the end of the session, participants will be able to:

1. Understand how to evaluate and address carpal tunnel symptoms

2. Appreciate the nuances of carpal tunnel presentation and treatment in the older adult

3. Advocate for occupational therapy as part of evidence-supported care for carpal tunnel.

 

Bio/Background of the Speakers:

Rachel Egan, OTR/L MS CHT COMT-UE is a nationally certified hand therapist who earned her undergraduate degree from Swarthmore College and went on to complete her Master of Science in Occupational Therapy at New York University. With a specialized focus on upper extremity rehabilitation in the outpatient setting, Rachel also has advanced training in treating workers’ compensation patients, oncology rehabilitation, mental health, manual therapy, and cognition. In addition to patient care working with high level gymnasts, Rachel manages operations for 13 NovaCare Rehabilitation clinics across Minnesota and currently serves as the Hand Therapy Lead for OT Potential.
