Jaimee M.B. Hegge, OTD, OTR/L, CKTP and Morgan Villano, MPA, MSPS, OTR/L

Jaimee M.B. Hegge is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Graduate Occupational Therapy (OT) Program at Sacred Heart University and has been teaching OT students for seven years. Dr. Hegge teaches and coordinates the adult and geriatric physical rehabilitation curriculum. Dr. Hegge received her MSOT degree from Sacred Heart University and OTD degree from St. Catherine University.

Morgan Villano is an adjunct instructor in the Graduate Occupational Therapy (OT) Program at Sacred Heart University, supporting mental health, physical disabilities and activity analysis courses. Morgan also provides per diem inpatient O.T. services to persons living with acute mental health conditions, spanning adolescence to geratrics, within the Yale New Haven Health system. Morgan has clinical experience in a variety of treatment settings including: home health, acute care, SNF, community psychiatry, inpatient psychiatry for children and adolescents and K-12 school systems.

Learning Objectives Attendees Should Achieve:

1. Identify the layers and function of the pelvic floor musculature.
2. List appropriate tools to measure urinary incontinence and identify various treatment options.
3. Identify the mental health aspects associated with experiencing urinary incontinence
4. Apply learned concepts to a case study through group analysis and clinical reasoning

Summary of Event: This educational course will review the anatomy and specific muscles of the pelvic floor. An overview of the role of the occupational therapist in the assessment and treatment of urinary incontinence will be discussed. A variety of assessment methods as well as musculskeletal and behavioral interventions will be reviewed. In addition, the relationship between living with urinary incontinence and experiencing mental health symptoms will be explored. Participants will engage in small group work to analyze a clinical case in an effort to apply the learning objectives of the workshop.
