Speaker:  KIMBERLY HARTMANN, PHD, OTR/L, FAOTA, FNAP 

 

Bio/Background of the Speakers:

Kimberly Hartmann, PhD, OTR/L, FAOTA, FNAP is a professor of occupational therapy at Quinnipiac University and the Director of the Center for Interprofessional Healthcare Education. Her doctoral degree is from the University of Connecticut with dual concentrations in disability advocacy in higher education and assistive technology. She has worked at Monson Developmental Center, Newington Childrens’ Hospital, multiple consultancy positions in birth to 21 education, and Quinnipiac University. At Quinnipiac she served as the chair of the OT department for over 25 years, the assistant director of the university program for faculty teaching and learning, and the interim dean of the School of Health Sciences. Currently, Dr Hartmann is the founding director of the Center for Interprofessional Healthcare Education. Dr Hartmann's professional community service has included appointed and elected positions at the American Occupational Therapy Association including the Board of Directors, as well as serving on the Board of Directors at Gaylord Healthcare and Best Buddies. Dr. Hartmann has received numerous awards from Quinnipiac University including the James Marshall Award for Service and the Excellence in Teaching Award. In addition, she has received the Connecticut Occupational Therapy Association award for community service and was elected a Fellow of the American Occupational Therapy Association for leadership in education and technology. In 2014, she was recognized for her work in interprofessional health care practice and was named a fellow of the National Academy of Practice. The American Occupational Therapy Association awarded Dr. Hartmann the Interprofessional Collaboration Award in 2020. Also, in 2020 the interprofessional healthcare education center she coordinates received the award of merit from The Association of Schools Advancing Health Professions.

At the close of this discussion participants will be able to:

1.identify the 4 concepts from complexity science and apply those to different approaches to leadership in healthcare and occupational therapy;

2.merge the OTPF concepts of environmental context into how we observe and explicitly decide on a leadership approach.
