Bio/Background of the Speakers:

ConnOTA community of practice members are OT practitioners who are actively working in home care, who have worked in home care, or are seeking to work in home care.  Members bring their expertise and skillset as well as questions and a strong desire to use social learning theory to learn, share, and pool knowledge.

Learning Objectives Attendees Should Achieve:

This hour-long presentation and discussion will allow participants to understand:

• The importance of sleep and main co-morbidities associated with disrupted sleep in the older adult population.
• Sleep as an ADL and sleep hygiene strategies in older adults and those with cognitive impairment.
• Evidenced-based practice on use of sleep hygiene and measurement tools to show progress.

Summary of Event: 

 Joanna deeply believes that sleep hygiene is a pivotal role for occupational therapy practitioners and is it an unsung hero of the essential ADL. Getting our clients the rest they need can only improve outcomes, and with many available quick assessment guides it is easy to document progress. She truly believes in the impact of OT and finding ways to secure our space in a changing healthcare dynamic is crucial.
