Areas of practice include but are not limited to hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, long-term care facilities, home care, ALF, ILF, Adult Day Care, Senior Centers, as well as students, retirees, and those who teach older adult OT content. Members bring their expertise and skill set as well as questions and a strong desire to use social learning theory to learn, share, and pool resources and knowledge.

Mastery of group objectives is orally assessed.

Learning Objectives Attendees Should Achieve:
By the end of the session, participants will be able to:
1. Name and describe 3 task performance areas of Tai Chi
2. Name and give 3 examples of performance components Tai Chi addresses.
3. List 3 OT interventions that can be utilized to augment Tai Chi

Summary of Event:

We will discuss the roots of Tai Chi, its place within Traditional Chinese Medicine including a working definition. This discussion will include the integration of Tai Chi into Western Medicine & specifically into our OT frame of reference.

Concepts such as “holistic approach”, “task performance”, “performance component” will be appreciated within the art form of Tai Chi. How we can integrate Tai Chi with various OT interactions will be covered, as well as the appropriate language to describe Tai Chi principles/practice into OT documentation
