A great way to get involved in your Association!
Our mentor program was developed to provide learning, support, professional growth and guidance to Occupational Therapy professionals and new graduates or students who wish to expand their knowledge and skills in specific areas of clinical practice.
What does a mentor do:
- Provides information, instruction and serves as a positive role model in his/her area of clinical practice.
- Assesses clinical knowledge and level of experience of the mentee.
- Discusses specific goals and skill development needs and provides resources and direction.
- Provides specific and constructive feedback to the mentee.
- Provides encouragement, training and support as needed
- Solicits and listens to ideas from the mentee to enhance learning.
What does the mentee do:
- Discusses specific goals and skill development needs and seeks resources and direction from mentor
- Solicits and listens to ideas from the mentor to enhance learning.
What qualities should a mentor have:
- A desire to share experiences, skills and knowledge!
- Greater than 1 year of experience in practice area and current licensure.
- Active participation in continuing education activities to further own learning.
- Current member of ConnOTA.
- Commitment to follow-through in a timely manner to communications and sessions with mentee.
What qualities should a mentee have:
- A desire to share experiences, skills and knowledge, strengths and areas for growth.
- Active participation in continuing education activities to further own learning.
- Current member of ConnOTA.
- Commitment to follow-through in a timely manner to communications and sessions with mentor.
How much time does it take:
- The mentor and the mentee determine the process, format and time needed and available to ensure a successful experience.
